I have moved . . .

is my new photography blog home.

Why?

When I started Amy's Photo Blog, I was just experimenting and was not sure that I was serious, or would keep it up.
Since I have started back with posting and have kept it up for a few months I decided that I needed a more original name for my blog.

Please visit and follow me there as I do not plan to update this blog address in the future.

Thank you!!!

No need to go far

Country Cemetery Road

A beautiful cemetery in extreme southern Tennessee always captures my attention when I drive by.

It is called Oxford Cemetery and is on Hwy 11 in Giles County.

It is even pretty when you leave.

Liebster and Versatile Blogger Awards

Well, I might have trouble getting my big head through the door.

I have received two - yes, two - awards.

Many thanks to Candy and Deno!

My friend, Candy, at PICKIN and PAINTIN honored me with the Liebster Blog award!  Candy's blog features furniture make-overs that she does.  She also has a wonderful shop in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee that I love to visit.

A new friend, Deno, at What Do All These Buttons Do? sent me the Versatile Blogger Award.  He has great photos, many of which are HDR.

Please visit both of these blogs and the great blogs below that I have bestowed these awards to!

For the Liebster Award, I was supposed to choose 5 up and coming blogs which have less than 200 followers.  For the Versatile Blogger Award, the number of blogs I was to select was fifteen.
So I chose 15 blogs, at least five of which have less than 200 followers.  I think the point here is exposure for your blog, so we're good.

Since I combined these, each of you can choose which award you want to pass on.  Aren't choices great?

I don't like using the word "rule" on my blog, so here are the steps that make the blog award thing work best:

Liebster

  • Choose 5 blogs that have less than 200 followers
  • In a new blog post:
    • Show your appreciation to the blogger who awarded you by linking back to them.
    • Link back to the blogs you are awarding so that everyone else can visit and enjoy their blog.

Versatile

In a new blog post:

  • Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to their blog.
  • Select 15 blogs/bloggers that you've recently discovered or follow regularly
  • Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
  • Finally, tell 7 things about yourself.

Here are my 7 things for the Versatile Award:
1.  Photography is my hobby.
2.  I do not like sports and if someone I'm fond of isn't playing, I won't be watching.
3.  I am very lucky in that my husband likes loves cooking.  Go for it, Dear.
4.  I collect rulers, clocks, flat carpenters pencils, wasp nests, santa mugs, sugar/creamers, and a multitude of other things.
5.  I like vintage things and many of my photos are of vintage things, either mine, or someone else's.
6.  I love cats.
7.  I like green, yellow, red, and robin's egg blue; birds, butterflies, lilies, irises, petunias.

Awardees:
Post either/both award(s) on your blog side panel to show that you won an award!

And, it's only blogging . . . if you do not want to participate for whatever reason, then feel free to ignore.  You don't have to email me, apologize, make excuses . . nothing.  Promise.

Ahhhh-choo

See the pollen at the bottom of the top right photo?
My husband shook the tree and a cloud of pollen billowed around.
How fast can you get a lens cap on?

Does anyone know what these things are that are always on cedar and maybe other evergreen trees?
Scary.

Credit, where credit is due

A lot of skill and knowledge goes into a good or great photograph.

Just because an image is pretty does not mean a trained, mentored, then experienced, professional photographer took it.

I don't deserve credit for the beauty in this subject matter (and I'm not insinuating that this looks like a professional image - just saying).

A dreary very overcast, very early February morning photograph was transformed into something better by the magic of computer software.

Camera Raw:  Exposure +0.8 and Noise reduction
PS CS5:  Screen layer 100%

SOOC - straight out of camera

So, a "true photographer" would have had a much better image SOOC using
the science of photography . . .
which does include knowing when the light is right to make the shot.
I think my ISO was at 3200.

This image was not "enhanced" by software, it was "fixed" by software and it still has issues.

And, I over-cropped it.

Here is a version using an applied texture by Kim Klassen
after the same Camera Raw adjustments above.

So when you see a photograph that you like, just remember that everything is not always what it appears to be.

Spring is coming

Or is spring already here?

This was taken a few weeks ago when the crocuses first emerged from the ground.

The Bradford Pear trees already have, not just buds, but tiny leaves.

I hope they do not get disappointed with a below-freezing spell.

Home made corndogs

Nope, this isn't a recipe, just photos.

I will say that I got the idea for the dogs from Pinterest.  The Pinterest photo was a chunk of hot dog cooked in corn bread in a muffin tin.  I cut the dogs in half lengthwise and some off the ends so they would fit into the cast iron corn molds and have room for some corn bread batter.
They turned out great!

Add chili and your favorite toppings and you have a wonderful meal!

One important thing:

Corn bread does not have sugar in it.

My plate with mustard.  Yum.

Hubby's plate with sour cream.

Barn for sale?

One of my favorite barns that I've photographed.
The top photo was taken two or three years ago during summertime, obviously.
The second photo was a few weeks ago.
The barn has had some maintenance.

There is a For Sale sign in front of the house.
Of course, the listing could be for the house only, but if not, I hope the new owner appreciates the barn.

The Chocolate Box

My husband tells that when he was a child his dad would bring home
a huge box of chocolates on Valentine's Day.

He and his three brothers were allowed to have one piece per day.

A few days ago I brought home a huge box of chocolates.  When he reaches for his second piece I remind him that he is only allowed one piece per day.

He reminds me that he is no longer six years old.

Happy Valentine's Day !
